Adobe Flash. March 23 @ 2:00pm ET & March 25 @ 4:00pm ET Arctic Man is a yearly competition that takes place in the remote Alaskan wilderness. Over 20 years ago Howard Thies and his buddies were skiing deep in the Hoodoo Mountains and placed a wager on who could ski a five mile course the fastest while hooked behind a snowmachine. Today, on hi-tech racing snowmachines and hundred-dollar-an-ounce hot wax, skiers push the limits of endurance and speed. The course is five and a half miles, two times longer than the toughest World Cup downhill. Half of the grueling race is spent blazing behind 600cc sleds that top out at 90mph. For 5 days 15,000 people turn a barren valley into the fourth largest city in Alaska. Watch our one hour special coverage of the race on Versus, and get a feel for Alaska's classic spring party.
